COFFEE CLUB: a running podcast about nothing · Morgan McDonald

The Future of our Podcast

November 6, 2025·1 hr 22 min·5 clips
For the first time, I realized I'm more excited to return to my home than to escape it.
Coffee Club starts by asking the elephant in the room. Morgan says people were wondering whether the podcast would continue after the news broke, and he finally decides to talk about something he had kept to himself for a couple of months. He explains that he left the OAC two or three months ago. He says he is doing his own thing now, does not get to see the team as much anymore, and that it feels pretty sad. A new coaching setup is already in motion. Morgan says he has been working with an old friend, will not name the coach yet, and is leaning on a simple mantra: start early, progress slow. The studio reunion feels warm. The group is happy to be back together, even while they joke about how long it has been since the last studio pod. Then the running talk starts rolling. They get into a New York Marathon performance where a woman finished top ten, looked like she was conserving, and became the first woman ever to break 2:20 in New York after a long-standing record finally fell. The finish photo does the rest. They mention her parents and daughter being there, plus an aerial shot of her on the ground with the finish tape and a sea of cameras around her, which they treat as pretty iconic. Of course, the show wanders. A Tame Impala side trip appears, tied to a Halloween concert and a band costume bit that everyone seems amused by. That is the Coffee Club pattern. The serious running update lands wrapped in coffee, travel, jokes, and the sort of conversational derailment that keeps the room warm instead of polished. The close gets stranger in the best way. A mock-serious Coffee Club summit proposal turns into a whole bit about who will be there, who will take part, and how nervous everyone is pretending to be about it. It still ends cleanly. The episode signs off by thanking listeners, confirming that episode 205 is done, and promising to be back next week.

As heard by us

A candid reset that turns team news into a loose, funny check-in on what comes next.

Coffee Club uses the episode to put the main news on the table: Morgan says he left the OAC two or three months ago, the hosts note that listeners had been wondering whether the podcast would continue, and the discussion gives the departure enough space to register.
