S13E13: Where’s Your Gun Right Now?…Concealed Carry Positions

·1 hr 40 min·5 clips

Riley Bowman asks where you carry your gun right now, challenging listeners to rethink their concealed carry position.

The episode begins with hosts Riley Bowman and Jacob Paulson introducing the topic of concealed carry positions, noting they are revisiting material from an old episode no longer on the podcast feed due to technical limitations. They explain the episode will break down different carry positions, discussing pros and cons to help listeners make informed choices. The hosts emphasize that the best position varies based on individual factors like body size, clothing, activities, climate, and physical limitations such as hernias or insulin pumps. They start with waistband carry, distinguishing between outside waistband (OWB) and inside waistband (IWB). OWB is noted as less common for concealment, often requiring jackets or loose clothing, while IWB is more prevalent. The discussion then focuses on appendix carry (front of hip, roughly 12-2 o'clock), which the hosts identify as the current dominant position among serious practitioners and competitive shooters, as observed at TACCON. Pros of appendix carry include visibility for reholstering and retention, potential speed advantages, and easier vehicle access. Cons involve concealment challenges requiring more holster optimization and comfort issues for some. The hosts debate safety concerns about muzzling oneself, arguing a holstered gun is safe and that proper technique avoids issues during draw/reholster. They then cover strong-side hip carry (around 3 o'clock), noting it may be easier to conceal and more comfortable for some, especially with tucked shirts or suits, but may be slower and less efficient in movement. Small-of-the-back carry (around 4-5 o'clock) is criticized for spinal injury risk, poor retention, and printing when bending over. Cross-draw positions are discussed briefly, with hosts questioning their efficiency and safety, especially in vehicles. Throughout, the hosts reference listener comments, sponsor products like KSG Armory holsters, and their own experiences, maintaining an educational tone focused on practical considerations.
