Brendan and Stephen open by sounding pleasantly wrecked in the best possible way. They have just finished recording Goatee 2016 for Patreon. They have also taken a break to eat chili, corn muffins, and cookies, and to watch Antique Roadshow. The whole opening feels like a moment they cannot really recreate on purpose. Brendan says the episode may catch a dreamlike afterglow, and the two of them keep leaning into the joke about molting into new people. It stays loose, funny, and very unhurried. From there, Brendan says he has played only one video game since the last recording. That game is Persona 4 Golden. He chose it because the show is preparing a PlayStation Vita episode for Patreon. He also chose it because Persona 4 Golden was the game he originally bought the Vita for. He remembers starting it when it came out on Vita and only getting partway through, maybe around 14 hours in. He thinks he was near the end of Yukiko's dungeon, which he treats as the point where the game was still opening itself up. It was his first Persona game, and he was not talking to anyone who could really help him with it. At the time, the pull was partly social pressure from people around him, but not yet real personal investment. The episode keeps circling that feeling of returning to a game long after the first attempt. Brendan frames the choice as a deliberate reset after a very dense Goatee season. He wanted to play one thing and actually stay with it. The conversation makes that sound almost radical. What could have been a simple update turns into a small reflection on backlog guilt, old Vita memories, and how a game can sit unfinished for years before becoming interesting again. The tone stays affectionate throughout. Even the digressions feel like part of the point.
