Not With A Bang But A Hamper

Molly Elwood explains how she euthanizes entire sheds of dogs using a gentle foam that suffocates them slowly.

Jake Yapp opens by announcing this is the last episode in the current series of 'Not Today, Thank You', explaining he'll be taking a break to host live radio weekday breakfast shows on Jack FM for two weeks starting December 19th, followed by a Radio 4 Extra show launching January 2nd. He expresses gratitude to listeners for their engagement with the podcast. Yapp then discusses his annual music compilation 'Jake Yap Annual 2022', which contains 30 tracks including podcast jingles, songs from projects like 'Unsafe Space' for John Holmes, and archival material like a live recording of '12 Days of Greg's Mess' from The Now Show. He describes several tracks in detail, including three songs from an unrealized comedy horror musical and pieces like 'Mine' and 'Underwater Kiss 1991'. The episode's central feature is an interview with Molly Elwood, a farmer who runs Elwood's Organic Dog Meat. Yapp, who is vegan, participates in a tasting of a butter charcuterie board she sent him. Molly guides him through sampling dog milk butter, maple-glazed yellow lab tornado steak, dry-aged Sheltie salami, skinless pan-seared Yorkie thighs, ground dachshund sausage, and pug bacon. During the conversation, Molly reveals details about their farming practices: dogs are free-range in summer but kept in barns in winter, with small breeds like Yorkies and Chihuahuas comprising 88% of their harvest. She describes keeping these dogs in a large shed where each has access to a space about the size of a piece of paper. Molly discusses disease outbreaks, mentioning they had to euthanize a Yorkie shed using a foam method and used ventilation shutdown for larger breeds with dog TB. She explains they use every part of the dog for products, including natural casings from intestines or skin for sausages. Molly promotes their holiday turdog (a stuffed dog dish) and provides their website, elwooddogmeat.com. After the interview, Yapp thanks supporters like Mick Wright and Cousin Davey of Audio Freaks, encourages listener support for content creators, and reiterates his radio schedule before signing off.
