Project Stargate & Patrick Price

·20 min·1 clip

Declassified CIA documents showed the Soviets were researching whether the human mind could influence electronics or kill at a distance.

This episode of Seriously Mysterious explores the U.S. government's secretive Stargate Project and one of its most gifted psychics, a police officer named Patrick Price. Host John Lorden details how Cold War fears of Soviet psychic weapons spurred American investment in parapsychology. The narrative centers on Price's alleged remote viewing abilities and his mysterious death. The CIA and Defense Intelligence Agency partnered with the Stanford Research Institute to investigate psychic espionage, focusing on remote viewing. They recruited a small unit including scientist Harold Puthoff, remote viewer Ingo Swann, and Pat Price, a Burbank police officer and Scientologist. Declassified documents reveal U.S. analysts feared Soviet "psychotronic" weapons, citing a 1972 DIA report titled "Controlled Offensive Behavior." Soviet researchers studied a Leningrad housewife named Nina Kulagina, who allegedly moved objects and stopped a frog's heart with her mind. Price's first test involved viewing coordinates he was told were a vacation house; he instead described a secret NSA monitoring station near Fort Meade. He accurately provided project titles and the site's code name, causing agencies to scramble for a non-psychic leak. Price later remote-viewed a Soviet base, drawing machinery and layouts later validated by satellite photos. He privately claimed to have located four global subterranean alien bases, including one in Mount Perdido in the Pyrenees housing UFOs with electromagnetic propulsion. Price described a base under Mount Hayes, Alaska, as a weather center that disrupted U.S. and Soviet space projects with electronic warfare. A fascinating insight is the CIA's concept of an "attractor," where a remote viewer's focus is pulled to a more interesting site than their intended target. Price's detailed account of an alien "overhaul and maintenance unit" in Zimbabwe included descriptions of a tubular grid system for ionizing air. His sudden death in a Las Vegas hotel room in 1975, officially from a heart attack, followed a strange encounter where a man bumped into him. Before his death, Price instructed a friend to secure sensitive materials for Harold Puthoff if anything happened to him. A 1995 CIA review found remote viewers' accuracy dropped to statistical randomness under tight, double-blind test conditions. The agency's final summary stated the phenomenon existed but the information was never used operationally. Investigations concluded there was no credible evidence the Soviets ever successfully weaponized psychic abilities. The tone is narrative and investigative, blending historical documentary with speculative true crime. The style is conversational yet detailed, presenting declassified facts alongside extraordinary claims. Listeners fascinated by Cold War history, government conspiracies, and fringe science will find this episode compelling. Those skeptical of paranormal phenomena or preferring strictly evidence-based narratives might choose to skip it.

An accurate site layout, wrong names, and no visible leak leave Patrick Price at the center of a stubborn question.

Patrick Price gives this episode a tight, uneasy puzzle: the physical layout of a site appeared to be right, while the names attached to people there were wrong.
