The CoCo Show: A TRS-80 Color Computer Podcast · Amigos Retro Gaming

"GET ME OUTTA HERE!" is what you'll be SCREAMING as The CoCo Show looks at this ESCAPE ROOM GAME!

·40 min·3 clips
Brent got so stuck on a puzzle he had to call friends for help, reviving old-school gaming camaraderie.
The cold open wanders gloriously sideways. One Radio Shack mention sends Aaron back to the old ritual: need a capacitor, a breadboard, or a bag of resistors, then realize there is nowhere obvious to get them. That is home turf for the show, half nostalgia and half complaint, with enough technical fussing to keep it pointed at the TRS-80 Color Computer. Eventually Brent gets to the escape-room game, and the verdict starts in a weird place. He did not finish it. That sounds harsher than it is, because anyone who already knows the door code can clear the whole thing in 20 seconds. The code never changes. The show clocks that as a shortcut, but also as part of how the puzzle has to work, since randomness would wreck the clues. That is where the episode gets its charge. Brent is not excited by the finish line. He is excited because one clue would not give itself up, and there was no handy online walkthrough to bail him out. So Mike and Jamie, the same friends from his Baldur's Gate 3 circle, get dragged into it. For about half an hour they read the clue, compare what they see, and grind toward a four-digit answer. Brent sounds pleased in the best possible way: not canned-review pleased, more like old-machine pleased, where a tiny game and two buddies manage to feel like a real escape room. The game stays small. The conversation keeps making room for why that smallness works, where it cheats, and whether the limitation helps the puzzle more than it hurts. By the end, the show is already swerving into next week's emulator plans, Arsene Claire, and Mr. Wimpy. Brent may also have to sleep on his CoCo. The signoff stays exactly as scruffy as it should: press play, miss the landing, correct it badly, complain about the correction, go home.
