To Boldly Go | Gen Con 2026 Gauntlet Prep Part 3 | Traveller

March 12, 2026·1 hr 15 min·6 clips
Matthew's ambassador rolls a space yacht and becomes a Marquis, forcing the crew to rethink their entire Gen Con challenge.
Admin starts the roll call. A clipped skill list turns into table sorting, with animals, art, athletics, carouse, electronics, medic, survival, and Backsuit all moving through the room. Everyone likes everything, naturally. Then the Aslan options arrive, and tolerance becomes a mechanical choice plus the kind of joke this table was always going to keep. Tolerance zero. The rule text frames it as comfort dealing with non-Aslan and ignoring lapses in propriety outside family, pride, clan, and race. Handy, if also very funny in context. Matthew adds streetwise and athletics, while Joe keeps the count straight and pulls everyone back into character creation. Three skills total. The mood is loose, but the work keeps happening: pages get checked, terms get named, and the sheet creeps forward. Career selection comes next. The table weighs university against going straight into scientist, which means more qualification math. Rite of passage matters. Scientist needs a seven-plus, while male Aslan apparently need a ten-plus, which tees up a dry glass-ceiling crack. The character qualifies anyway. Term one begins as scientist, lower third, with familiar basic-training logic and a service-skills spread that looks much less friendly. That lands immediately. The episode works because it keeps snapping back to the rules before the bit fully runs away. No grand recap, no big scene. Just Joe, Matthew, and Skid turning a character sheet into a half-serious problem about manners and career fit.
