A turkey call maker uses AI to score his calls' realism, blending traditional hunting with modern technology.

The episode begins with Chris Lawrence reflecting on the show's 32-year history, noting its start on April 1, 1994. He introduces the topic of the upcoming spring gobbler season. Guest Brent Null joins, sharing how he began making turkey calls after creating a wing bone call from a bird he harvested last year. Brent explains his background in IT and how he uses technology, including AI tools like ChatGPT, to analyze and improve his calls by comparing them to real turkey vocalizations. He details the materials he uses for calls, such as stoned aluminum, ceramic, and copper over glass, and discusses the differences in sound. Brent talks about his hunting experiences, including calling a turkey from 300 yards and killing a 23-pound gobbler without making a call after the initial yelp. He mentions his goal to get his 13-year-old grandson his first turkey using one of his custom calls. The episode includes demonstrations of various calls, like a tube call made from bamboo and a trumpet call. Brent also discusses his plans to use a CNC machine for woodworking as he expands his business. The show concludes with Brent encouraging listeners to contact him via Facebook for call purchases or to donate turkey wings.
