Sex, love, and dating without the respectability politics.
The gist
Sam and a rotating cast of co-hosts talk through sex, love, and dating as it collides with current events and their own lives. Interviews and deep dives sit alongside loose, laughing conversation, with ten seasons behind it and a final season that closes the run.

About Inner Hoe Uprising
Every episode opens the same way and never sounds the same twice. Sam introduces the show as being about sex, love, and dating from the perspective of one Black, non-monogamish, non-binary feminist hoe in New York City, then hands half the floor to a rotating co-host. That rotation is the engine. Akua brings one energy, Rob another, and the format flexes between three modes: current-events talk, interview episodes with people who genuinely know their material, and self-chosen deep dives. The register is casual and unguarded, full of overlapping talk and asides. The content underneath is often academic in a way most shows in this space never attempt. A Harlem Renaissance episode considers why marriage carried revolutionary weight for Black people denied it under slavery, and why the desire to love openly was itself a political act. A conversation with queer elders of color turns on a woman describing her divorce, her sister's church, and the moment she saw two women kissing and reached for the word abomination before her own life rewrote it. An episode on compulsory sexuality traces how low desire was benchmarked against cis heterosexual men, and asks who benefits from that bar. An HIV episode brings in a behavioral and infectious disease epidemiologist to explain syndemics, where poverty, depression, and disease reinforce one another instead of merely stacking. A codependency breakdown is more practical, listing the tells: doing things a partner should do for themselves, packing lunches, managing another adult's mornings. A throuple interview handles the logistics of three people and the difference between jealousy and compersion with equal seriousness. Politics is never bracketed off. Cold opens mention genocide, record heat, and unemployment before the topic even starts, and one recording lands on an election day with a guest telling listeners to vote. The humor is broad and self-aware, the profanity frequent, the vulnerability real. Guests plug books and steer buyers toward independent bookstores rather than Amazon. After ten seasons the show announced its final run, counting down episodes and asking listeners to leave voicemails with their favorite moments to be played on the last one. There is a companion connection to the Griot Black Podcast Network and an audio drama called Harlem in Moscow. What lingers across the archive is the insistence that how people love, partner, and want is inseparable from the conditions they live under, and that the conversation can be rigorous and still be fun.
Made for: Adults who want candid talk about non-monogamy, queerness, and desire from Black and non-binary perspectives, and who like their sex-and-relationships conversation grounded in history, research, and structural analysis. It suits listeners comfortable with explicit subject matter, strong language, and politics woven into the personal.
What sets it apart: Most sex-and-dating shows stop at advice; this one moves from date-night logistics for three people to Harlem Renaissance marriage politics and epidemiological theory in the same run of episodes. The rotating co-host format keeps the chemistry shifting rather than settling into a fixed duo.
