About Inside the World of Duotone
Inside the World of Duotone is a kiteboarding interview show made from within Duotone itself. Its host, Lewis, introduces designers as 'our' designers, and the guest list follows from that position: the people who shape the kites, the person who decides how they look, and riders competing at the highest level. The technical episodes stand out most. In a conversation with Aaron Hadlow, labelled a Tech Talk, the ground covered includes how to pump a kite, kite pressure, line stretching and shrinking, and what a low V does. Hadlow explains that a rigid, overinflated kite has no give when it slams, so any weak point can fail, which is why the brand recommends around seven PSI. Lewis confesses he loves hearing a good leading-edge slam, before the talk comes back to the serious part. Sky Solbach, who has worked with Boards & More since 2004, joins from Maui twice. In one conversation he traces his route into kite design through years of testing kites with Ken, whom he calls a mentor and credits for where he is now, and explains how Ken's shift toward wings made room for him. The other is tied to a new product announcement, and Lewis spends time on how some riders speak a precise feedback language with designers and some do not. Sky closes it on the feeling of finishing a product and seeing people enjoy it on the water. Creative director Florian Panther describes his job as the visual side of the products, kept separate from the technical design, and insists the Porsche collaboration was a team effort. Then there is the competition side. Pedro Matos, the 2025 kite surf world champion, talks about a dream he has held since he started kite surfing, about functional training that gave him power, flow and style, and about a Cape Verde final against Ayrton where he was losing late and needed a nine. He got it. His parting message is plain: keep working until the biggest dream arrives. Before the 2025 Red Bull King of the Air, Lewis catches up with defending champion Andrea Principi and Pippa van Iersel in Cape Town, with the Cape Doctor firing. Andrea describes reaching a point where riding is about having fun rather than proving anything, and the talk turns to how hard it is even to qualify and to knowing when to go home and reset. The pacing is measured and the tone warm, with Lewis often summing up an answer before asking for the next layer. Guests get room to talk, and the questions keep returning to how things feel in the body and on the water. For gear questions, the Aaron Hadlow conversation is the natural place to start; for the competitive mindset, the Pedro Matos episode is.
Made for: Suits a listener who rides or follows kiteboarding closely and wants gear tuning, kite design and competition pressure discussed in specific, practical terms by the people involved.
What sets it apart: Designers and a creative director sit alongside champion riders on its guest list, so the talk moves from recommended PSI, line stretch and years of kite testing to the pressure of needing a nine in a final.
