About The New Grad Physio Podcast
The New Grad Physio Podcast is a clinical coaching show aimed at the uncomfortable gap between qualification and real confidence. It is practical first. Andy Barker speaks to the pressures that sit around new physiotherapists, sports therapists, and sports rehabilitators: uncertain assessments, messy rehab plans, difficult diagnoses, discharge decisions, and the fear of not looking ready. The show does not treat confidence as something that appears after enough time passes. It argues that confidence comes from evidence. That evidence means seeing a patient improve, guiding the rehab process, and helping someone return to the activity or work that mattered in the first place. Low back pain episodes show the method clearly. Rather than starting with a long list of possible diagnoses, the show pushes for strategy before exercises, then asks which movement pattern is driving the problem most. Flexion and extension become usable buckets. The point is not to make clinical reasoning shallow, but to stop complexity from becoming hesitation in front of a patient. Shoulder episodes and difficult diagnosis discussions work in the same lane, turning uncertainty into a first step rather than a dead end. Career episodes widen the focus. The show questions whether shadowing impressive clinics or sports clubs actually builds the responsibility, reasoning, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planning that employers value. It also looks at interviews, CV assumptions, scope of practice, and a healthcare system that can make early career progress feel harder than it should. The tone is warm but unsentimental. It can be blunt about weak habits, vague advice, and professional barriers. The repeated message is simple: problem first, solution second. For listeners who want polished debate or research-journal detachment, it may feel too direct and cyclical. For clinicians who need a steady voice turning everyday practice stress into workable frameworks, that directness is the appeal.
Made for: Student and newly qualified physiotherapists, sports therapists, and sports rehabilitators who want clearer reasoning in patient assessment, treatment planning, rehab progression, and early career decisions.
What sets it apart: Its strength is the way it converts common new-grad panic into simple working frameworks, without pretending clinical work is easy. The show sits closer to a direct mentoring session than an academic lecture.
